There can be a number of causes when it comes to roof leaks. Unfortunately, many of the Port Kembla roofs we get called to have been letting water enter the roof for an extended period, with tell-tale signs appearing over time, but being serious enough to warrant investigation. It’s only when damage becomes more obvious or the leak worsens letting  larger amounts of water in that the occupants decide to call us! We recommend to everyone that if it’s been more that five years since you’ve had a professional roofer take a look at your roof, book in for a standard roof inspection. Just like regular dental checkups, it’s much easier and more cost effective to deal with minor issues before they develop into bigger ones!

Common reasons for roof leaks include:

• Broken roof tiles. Despite being excellent materials for roofing, concrete and terracotta tiles do degrade with time and can become cracked or loose with weather and falling debris.
• Blocked or damaged guttering. Gutters that become partially obstructed or damaged can fail to divert rain in the way they are designed to do. Uncontrolled runoff can end up entering fascia, wall cavities and ceilings.
• Older roofs. As your property ages, it requires more maintenance and unfortunately, roofs often get overlooked until there is a problem. In the case of a roof leak, many insurance policies will question whether the roof had been maintained adequately, so it’s another reason why we advise regular roof inspections.
